GOP too much of a big tent

The GOP suffers from what I call "Whig syndrome", trying to be too much of a big tent! It means when a party stands for being a party and for that alone. I mean the Democrats are a lil big tentish too but, they are so many crypto-communists that the big tent is a front for a unified left wing party. I mean ex-Republican Alan Keyes has criticized Michael Steel for taking all the steel out of the GOP.
